Les Calades –Vent des Jours 2020
Les Calades translates as the name for stones in the vineyard in old Occitan/Catalonian dialect. This is a beautiful medium-bodied Malbec from high up in the Cahors hills in the South of France that's perfect for the change of season. It's vinified in the rare “mille-feuille” layer-cake style: a 40cm layer of whole bunches, topped with a 40cm layer of destemmed grapes, followed by another layer of whole bunches and so on, fermented as such in concrete.
This pours an intense purple with violets on the nose, red cherries, bramble and blackcurrant. Nicely dry and well-balanced with some grip.
