The Newt In Somerset - No 1 Kingston Black
With its bold flavours and good balance of acidity, tannins and effervescence, our No.1 Kingston Black is a great all-rounder. Fermented until just off-dry, we carbonate this cyder to bring out its slightly floral quince and candied citrus notes. A lively palate-cleanser, it's perfect for kicking off your Sunday roast, or pairing with mature cheese.
The bittersharp Kingston Black is a legendary Somerset variety, often referred to as ‘the king of cyder apples’. Ours are harvested from an orchard just over the border in the Dorset village of Melpash. We press the apples in late October, then slowly cold-ferment the juice in our cellar, allowing the cyder to mature before carbonating it as it's bottled.
Our cider is spelt with a ‘y’ to preserve the old West Country tradition, originating from a time when it was used to indicate superior strength and quality.
